This is a perforated Mexican tax stamp designed by Francisco Eppens Helguera. It was issued in 1937 and commemorates Labor Day. Its value is of 1 cent. It seems that it is one of the first stamps designed by Eppens since he started working for the government in 1935. The stamp depicts a worker raising his right hand in sign of protest and holding a flag in his left hand, the flag has "MAYO" written on it.ARIEL VChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02646180260154529514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6627703806986947070.post-56034380484352747002018-03-07T08:15:00.000-08:002018-03-08T13:52:42.562-08:00Europa issue: Games and Toys

This is the 1989 Europa stamps series issued in the UK. This set of stamps depicts different classic toys and games, for instance, a tin robot, a doll's house, the snakes and ladders board game, building blocks, etc. It is a very colorful set of stamps. This particular image shows the series with a First Day of Issue from Leeds, UK. The stamps were designed by Dan Fern, they were issued on the 16th of May 1989. The official names of each stamps are (from left to right): Toy Train and Airplane, Building Blocks, Dice and Board Games and Toy Robot, Boat and Doll's House.ARIEL VChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02646180260154529514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6627703806986947070.post-21096528235728240622018-01-18T20:20:00.000-08:002018-01-19T09:17:28.351-08:00Día del Trabajo

This perforated stamp was designed by Francisco Eppens Helguera, the same artist that designed the present Mexican coat of arms. The stamp was issued in 1939, it is dedicated to a campaign against malaria, a mosquito borne desease. The value of the stamp at the time was of one cent. It shows a giant mosquito biting a man with his arms open to the air. It was printed by Talleres de Ipresión de Estampillas y Valores, the name of this institution is written at the bottom of the stamp, in my picture the name is a bit blurry.

The stamp was issued in 1935 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Plan of Ayala.

In 1911, Francisco I. Madero became president of Mexico after Porfirio Diaz's seven presidency terms (1876-1911). As the political leader of the Revolution, Madero betrayed the revolutionary philosophy of Emiliano Zapata, so the later proclaimed the Plan of Ayala, a document in which was drafted the spirit and ideals of the zapatismo. The Plan had the following points:

Madero has betrayed the revolution, he kept the same agrarian policies as Porfirio Diaz. Madero just wanted the presidency out of power thirst.

Madero is not the president anymore, his presidency will be overthrown.

Pascual Orozco is offered the leadership of the Revolution. If he does not accept the leadership, Zapata will be the leader.

The following points will be added to the Plan of San Luis and they will be defended until victory or death.

The Revolution will not be over until Madero and the rest of Diaz officials are overthrown.

The land and property taken away from the people will be return to them.

Land and property monopolies will be disolved and the land and property will be distributed to the poorest people.

The owners who do not handover the land of their monopolies will be left with less land.

In support of the previous two points, the land and property of monopolies will be officially nationalised.

Those who do not support this Plan will be considered traitors.

The war expenses will be cover according to the Plan of San Luis.

After the victory of this movement, a temporary president elected by the movement, will run elections.

The same will happen in each state to elect a governor.

If Madero and his officials do not resign from office they will be killed.

We call to all Mexicans to rise up against Madero, a traitor.

This is a Mexican perforated airmail stamp issued in 1934 by the "Oficina Impresora de Hacienda". The stamp shows a finely engraved composition of images: on the right side, it depicts an Eagle Knight looking at the horizon. The Eagle Knights were one the two military orders of the Aztecs, the other one being the Jaguar Knights. In the centre of the stamp, we find what seems to be the Popocatepetl (Popo) volcano, the second highest volcano in México, this volcano can be seen from Mexico City. Below the pick of the Popo there is an eagle ready to fly. And at the left side of the stamp there are some cactuses, they resemble saguaro cactuses which are native to the Sonora desert. All the images are icons of the Mexican culture and its natural landscapes. The value of the stamp is 20 cents.

This issue of stamps depicts the coat of arms of the Historic Provinces of Sweden (Sveriges landskap). There are twenty five historic provinces in Sweden, these provinces don't function as administrative territories anymore but they are recognised as areas of distinctive culture and history. Apparently, the coat of arms of the provinces appeared for the very first time at the funeral of the Swedish king Gustav I who fought agains the Danish. I've got only fifteen stamps of this issue, I reckon there should be one stamp for each province. They are perforated stamps issued by private post between 1981-1986?, their value ranges from 1.40kr to 1.90kr. On the frame of the stamp, at the bottom left corner and bottom right corner, one can read the name of the province and the year respectively. The designs of the coat of arms are quite delicate and detailed, the animals and objects are very well depicted. The shine of the golden and silver colours makes some stamps quite special, for example those from Värmland, Smaland, Skane and Angermanland.
